Awka, Anambra State. Reconstruction is underway along Amaku Road, an access route to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), with supplied footage showing excavation, timber formwork and construction materials beside the roadway.
The work in Awka South Local Government Area follows an Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) procurement notice and public complaints about road conditions around the hospital.
Footage shows construction activity
The clip shows activity along the edge of a built-up street, including excavated sections lined with formwork, piles of aggregate and people working beside the road. These visible features indicate works in progress; they do not establish the quality of the completed road, the full drainage design or the percentage of the project completed.
What the procurement record confirms
The Anambra State Bureau of Public Procurement’s e-procurement portal identifies ACTDA as the procuring entity for reconstruction of the stretch from MacDons to Old Zik’s Avenue Junction in Awka.
The notice, reference ocds-j74acu-115843-ANS/ACTDA/0017-NG, records an advertisement date of 17 September 2026 and a bid-submission deadline of 3 October 2026.
This is a tender advertisement, rather than a contract-award announcement. It does not establish the final contract sum, the appointed contractor or an agreed construction completion date. The bidders listed on the page should not be treated as confirmed contractors.
Earlier complaint about hospital access
A separate citizen report on the Anambra State Government’s Solution Lens platform, reference LNS-2026-000004, was filed on 5 October 2026 concerning damage along the Amaku to Aroma Junction route. The entry identifies COOUTH, Amaku, and Awka South.
When checked for this publication, the case remained labelled “Published, awaiting acknowledgement” and “Citizen reported”. That administrative status should not be interpreted as a live assessment of construction progress, or as proof that the complaint directly triggered the works.
Why the route matters
For residents, patients, hospital staff and motorists, an improved approach road could make journeys to COOUTH easier. Reliable access is particularly important when patients need urgent care.
Under Governor Charles Soludo’s administration, road construction quality has remained a subject of public debate. Anambra Socials has previously reported on the Works Commissioner’s meeting with contractors over failing roads and road and erosion concerns across the state.
For Amaku Road, the questions to follow include how drainage will be managed, how access to the hospital and adjoining properties will be maintained during construction, and what quality checks and maintenance arrangements will support the finished road.
A published contract value, work programme and completion timetable would help residents assess delivery. No confirmed completion date is established by the material reviewed for this report.
