Nnobi Junction Expansion: Five-Lane Project Takes Shape at Afor Nnobi
News reporting

Afor Nnobi, Idemili South LGA, Anambra State.
The Anambra State Government is expanding the busy Afor Nnobi Junction into a five-lane, at-grade intersection as part of efforts to improve traffic flow along routes connecting Agulu, Nnewi, Igbo-Ukwu and the wider Idemili area.
The project, being undertaken under Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, is intended to address congestion at one of the area’s important commercial intersections, particularly during festive periods.
Drone footage shows scale of construction
Anambra Socials’ drone footage shows extensive road widening and earthworks around the junction, with drainage construction alongside the road corridor. Vehicles and pedestrians continue to move through the area while work is ongoing.
Once completed, the expanded junction is expected to ease movement and improve connectivity across the surrounding road network.
Demolition and compensation concerns
The expansion has also raised concerns among residents and traders whose properties and livelihoods were affected by demolition to accommodate the project.
In a report published on 18 September 2026, Nairametrics said Governor Soludo had promised compensation for people whose residential buildings were demolished during the widening of the roundabout.
The report also said the governor directed the Commissioner for Works to facilitate replacement accommodation and relocation for three affected residents. The pledge should be distinguished from confirmation that compensation or relocation has been completed.
Quality, safety and fair treatment remain important
The transformation represents a welcome infrastructure development for Ndi Anambra. Its lasting value will depend on high construction standards, effective drainage and appropriate road safety provisions.
Fair treatment of affected residents and traders must also remain central to the project, alongside the anticipated benefits of improved traffic flow.
Anambra Socials hopes the project will deliver a durable, safer junction while addressing the concerns of the people affected by its expansion.

How to track the project’s promises
Nairametrics’ report places the compensation discussion at a 16 September meeting with the governor and Nnobi stakeholders. It also describes the proposed relocation of the market. These are reported commitments; this article has not verified payment records or completed replacement accommodation.
The drone footage records construction activity, not a final engineering inspection. It cannot establish pavement quality, the completion date or whether compensation has reached every eligible person.
A useful follow-up would compare the finished junction and drainage with the project’s scope, and document how affected residents and traders have been accommodated. Readers with dated evidence can use our community reporting guide to submit an update.
